My Grandma gave me all of her old community cookbooks. They are absolutely amazing - full of home cooking, home recipes + the sweetest memories from years ago. I love reading them. I feel so connected to my Grandma and to the food that raised me. This recipe was actually for an apple cake, and weirdly, contained no sugar… - I gave it a 2024 upgrade with strawberries, sesame seeds and…sugar.
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 cup white sesame seeds (I threw in about ¼ cup black sesame seeds bc I had them on hand…)
1 tsp salt
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 cup neutral oil - canola is best here
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
1 pint strawberries - chopped
Preheat oven to 350
Mix all of the dry together with a whisk. Add in the wet, beating it together until it’s smooth. Fold in the strawberries.
Spread into a greased 9x13. Bake for about 1 hour - checking at 45 minutes. Once the top does not sink down and a knife comes out clean it is all set!
Enjoy!
